Parish of St. Theresa and
Our Lady of the Wayside

Letter From Fr. Joe March 31, 2020

Dear Families,

You and your loved ones remain in my prayers during this difficult and trying time. Here are 3 things happening at our parish this weekend:

PALM SUNDAY

This coming Sunday, April 5 is Palm Sunday, the start of Holy Week. While we cannot join together in person for Mass, I will offer a livestream of my private Mass at 10 am on Zoom. You can access the link to view the Mass by visiting our parish website St. Theresa Website or by logging into Zoom directly by clicking https://us04web.zoom.us/j/648080625 (Meeting ID = 648-080-0625). Note: I am also offering a daily private Mass each day at 10 am that you can view at the above link as well.

DISTRIBUTION OF PALMS

Unfortunately, due to Archdiocesan guidelines, we will not be able to distribute Palm.

OUTDOOR CONFESSIONS ON SATURDAY

Fr. George and myself will be making ourselves available to you for outdoor confessions this Saturday, April 4 from 1 to 3 pm in the main church parking lot. We have modified a system that other parishes in our area are using that allows you to confess to a priest 6 ft away from the priest seated in his car. When you arrive, you will be directed to a lane for either one person in a car or for multiple people in a car (to view a map of the system, check out: Outdoor Confessions Map).

To anyone who needs or wants to go to confession but is not comfortable with leaving home, you are encouraged to pray an Act of Contrition with the intention of going when the pandemic passes. Pope Francis has said:

“Do what the Catechism says. It is very clear: If you cannot find a priest to confess to, speak directly with God, your father, and tell him the truth. Say, ‘Lord, I did this, this, this. Forgive me,’ and ask for pardon with all your heart....I will go to confession afterward, but forgive me now.’ And immediately you will return to a state of grace with God.”

During Holy Week, we will offer more opportunities for outdoor confessions and by appointment for those who cannot make any of the scheduled times.

Thank you for your attention to the above information. I hope you will join us for our livestreamed Masses on Zoom. Please continue to check the Parish website to stay updated. We will also be getting to you shortly the Mass/service livestream schedule for Holy Week/Triduum and Easter.

If Fr. George or I can assist you in any way, please contact the rectory at (914) 941-1646 or stchurch@optonline.net.

In Christ,

Fr. Joe
